Doro Dust

Southern Berbere Spice Blend

Doro Wat, Ethiopia's national dish of slow-braised chicken in berbere-spiced sauce, is one of the most complex dishes in the world, built on deeply caramelized onions and a spice blend that carries twenty or more aromatics. Ethiopian food arrived in American Southern cities with the Ethiopian diaspora beginning in the 1970s, taking root in Atlanta, D.C., and beyond. Doro Dust carries that berbere spirit: cardamom, fenugreek, Ethiopian basil, and the warming depth of the East African spice tradition, brightened with dried lemon peel, the citrus signature across the Simply Greer line. Use it on chicken, lentils, roasted vegetables, and stews that want layered, aromatic heat. Mix with your preferred oil or butter.

Best for: chicken, lamb, lentils, roasted vegetables, stews, eggs, flatbread and dips

A little goes a long way, start with a pinch.
