Sweet-Hot Pepper Blend
The datil pepper grows almost nowhere on earth except St. Augustine, Florida, fruity, fiery, and unique to one small place. It arrived in the late 1700s with the Minorcan settlers of St. Augustine, who made it their own and built a whole local cuisine around its heat. This blend leads with that pepper alongside a Mediterranean backbone of herbs and garlic, the Minorcan tradition that made St. Augustine's food unlike anywhere else in Florida. Use it on seafood chowders, shellfish, pork, and anything that deserves a Florida heat with Old World depth.
Best for: shrimp, clams & seafood, fish, chicken, rice & pilau, chowder, eggs, datil sauce
